As a little concern falling in the best getting class. an ensured credit could be great i n securing began in specialists obtaining as it would give you that working capital you may non hold procured at this point. especially if your little concern hasn’t built up a major satisfactory acknowledgment line to back up an unbarred advance. It is as often as possible astounding to another little concern how quickly the disbursals collect from a mean specialists contract. To hold the specialists warrant your advance just may be the answer required. Furthermore, in the long run there is private subsidizing. Contractual workers may back a specialists contract in much a similar way as they would fund a business contract †by acquiring financing through a business bank or monetary foundation. This is the best strategy for subsidizing from the government’s perspective. Since private subsidizing may require a temporary worker to designate the profits of the agreement to be financed as security for financess progressed.

Theories of Female Victimisation

Hypotheses of Female Victimization In todays society wrongdoing is a steady. Individuals that are surely understand, to individuals that nobody has ever known about succumb to crime regularly. There must be a motivation behind why these things occur so frequently. Casualty precipitation hypothesis holds that the casualty is the contributing actuality of their exploitation. Ladies, particularly, can make themselves accessible to lawbreakers and can easily turn out to be obvious objectives. It might be said, each casualty adds to their own exploitation somehow. Wrongdoing is exceptionally clear in our regular daily existences. It appears as if the normal American can't go a day without finding out about another abominable wrongdoing that has occurred in their locale. As indicated by the US Department of Justice, Criminal Justice Information Services Division, brutal violations represented 1,254,358 of the wrongdoings perpetrated in 2009. There are a wide range of kinds of offenses that can be named a wrongdoing. The FBI, in its yearly Crime in the United States report, distributes information for genuine wrongdoings in the Crime Index. The Index incorporates murder, assault, burglary, bothered ambush, robbery, theft burglary, engine vehicle burglary, and torching. These violations happen as often as possible to Americans, a few reports show that some even occur on a moment to minute premise. Survivors of wrongdoings are those that are influenced by the result of a wrongdoing that has been submitted; these can incorporate the essential casualty, the optional casualties, and related casualties. An entire network can be influenced by only one wrongdoing. It is exceptionally normal to know somebody who has been the survivor of a wrongdoing, particularly in todays society. Numerous individuals may have sympathy for these individuals and regularly guess how something like this could have happened to an individual, the same number of casualties wonder something very similar. An essential casualty is somebody inside the scope of predictable physical injury, commonly a member in the mishap; harms are recoverable for mental injury with respect to physical injury, regardless of whether no physical injury has happened. Optional casualties are those outside the scope of predictable physical injury, for example, witnesses or family members of the mishap casualties. A related casualty is an individual who is a nearby relative, or a dependant, of an essential casualty who has kicked the bucket as an immediate aftereffect of a demonstration of viciousness being submitted against them. (www.justice.qld.gov) As you can see, when a guilty party carries out a wrongdoing against one individual, the essential casualty, it can prompt domino impact. There can numerous casualties for one wrongdoing. There are numerous hypotheses on why wrongdoings occur and why individuals succumb to them. Some feel that being defrauded is simply an issue of chance, that specific individual that turned into a casualty to a wrongdoing was simply in an unlucky spot. Shouldnt individuals this day in age be sufficiently brilliant to where an inappropriate spot is and what an inappropriate time is? A few people speculate only that. Individuals should realize the distinction in good and bad, and they should think carefully as to choose the distinction. One hypothesis that maintains these suppositions is the casualty precipitation hypothesis. As in, the casualty took an interest, somehow or another, to their own exploitation. Casualty precipitation hypothesis sees victimology from the outlook that the casualty themselves may really start, either inactively or effectively, the criminal demonstration that eventually prompts demise or injury. (www.associatedcontent.com) If a casualty latently starts in th eir own exploitation, they accidentally do as such. Then again, if a casualty has a functioning job in their exploitation, they may have deliberately settled on the choice to do; by either inciting or inducing the wrongdoing that happened. In any case, the casualty precipitation hypothesis censures the casualty for their job in their exploitation. Occupation advancements, work status, victories, love interests, and so forth are instances of these oblivious practices and qualities of uninvolved precipitation. Moreover, political activists, minority gatherings, those of various sexual directions, and others seeking after substitute ways of life may likewise end up as focuses of brutality because of the coincidental danger they posture to specific people of intensity. Dynamic exploitation happens under this hypothesis through the undermining or provocative activities of the person in question. One of the most dubious purposes of this hypothesis is the possibility that ladies who are assaulted effectively contributed here and there, either through provocative dress, a relationship, or proposed assent of closeness. On account of this perspective it is difficult to convict a denounced attacker who has had some type of relationship with the charged, or one that was carrying on provocatively or intriguingly. (www.associatedcontent.com ) For the most part talking, there are two casualties of wrongdoing; people. A few people despite everything view ladies as the second rate sex, even in the 21st century. Despite the fact that people are both defenseless to wrongdoing, ladies are 8 to multiple times bound to succumb to assault and spousal maltreatment. A chosen few despite everything see ladies as feeble and not being able to have an independent perspective. Let each Man (specifically) be solicited his contemplations from ladies and he will let you know without question, that they were not made yet for man; they are fit for little more than, to medical attendant; and breed little kids in their low age; and to mind the house. (www.users.muohio.edu) Men, then again, are viewed as the defenders of their home and are the ones that have the training to talk straightforwardly. Commonly this can be motivation to why a few men carry out violations against ladies; a male guilty party may state that a lady was strange by express ing her genuine thoughts, or doing different things that may appear to be ordinary to others in todays society, so he felt that he needed to take care of business. Despite the fact that these perspectives appear to be dated, there are as yet numerous men, and ladies, that think along these lines. In view of how ladies are seen it can make them an obvious objective for certain guilty parties. Numerous attackers despite everything accept that ladies ought to submit to a man, when he needs her to, and dread him for the things that he may do to her is she gives in without any problem. Men attacker normally want to rebuff, mortify, overwhelm, overwhelm, and control their casualty. More often than not an attacker doesn't consider their to be as them doing anything incorrectly, and they don't think about the sentiments of their casualty. Ladies are additionally more defenseless to tricks than men are. Individuals regularly use feelings to further their potential benefit when they are attempting to con somebody, be it for cash or a spot to live. Ladies are known to be enthusiastic creatures since they are made to deliver kids and be nurturing. Individuals all over America, and neighboring nations, use email tricks, mail misrepresentation, or even simply arbitrary phone cons so as to get cash and different products and enterprises. An email trick can be randomized and conveyed in to different inboxes at once. Individuals from different nations can gather email addresses from locales in which individuals pursue refreshes about their preferred cookbooks or even explicit sites. In any case, these tricks can make perilous circumstances. There is a trick known as the Grandparent Scam. This trick involves somebody picking a number out of the phonebook and if an old lady answers the individual on the opposite end basically says, Grandma, is that you?, when the lady answers truly, the trick starts. The individual fundamentally tells their grandma that they have gotten into a difficulty and are needing cash and asks her to Western Union the cash to them. Without an inquiry the grandma sends the individual the mentioned reserves and doesnt even understood that they have been conned. Who wouldnt help their grandkid that was out of luck? Sentiments are frequently utilized against ladies in this constantly. Immediately a mo st ladies would help an individual in need since it appeared the best activity, and right in front of them, that have succumbed to another trick. Assault that happens on dates or between individuals who realize each other ought not be viewed as a type of misinformed sexual experience: Rape is viciousness, not temptation. In more abnormal assault and colleague assault, the attacker settles on a choice to drive his casualty to submit to what he needs. The attacker accepts he is qualified for power sex from a lady and he sees relational brutality (be it essentially holding the lady down with his body or displaying a weapon) as a worthy method to accomplish his objective. (Warshaw, 1988, pg.20) In 2005, 1,181 ladies were killed by a personal accomplice. That is a normal of three ladies consistently. Of the considerable number of ladies killed in the U.S., around 33% were executed by a private accomplice. (www.ojp.usdoj.gov) 33% of ladies executed in 2005 really knew their aggressors, which is a disturbing rate. Casualty precipitation hypothesis holds that a few ladies are exposed to this viciousness since they have brought it upon themselves. A blend of self-perception, the manner in which a ladies dresses, where a ladies hangs out, and the organization that she keeps can ascribe to her own exploitation. Disappointment with ones physical appearance can prompt a negative self-perception. (Lankford, 2010, pg.13) A womans negative view of herself can prompt her to settling on poor life choices. How a lady sees herself can influence her regular day to day existence, for example, her profession, family life, and accounts. Ladies that don't have a favorable opinion of themselves will in general imagine that they don't have the right to be genuinely glad. Having a low confidence can make an individual become discouraged. Wretchedness can prompt various self ruining issues, for example, medicate use, liquor addiction, and dietary issues. (Wolff, 1999, pg.18) If a lady imagines that she may always be unable to discover a spouse, sweetheart, or accomplice she may get prurient. A portion of these ladies may believe that if a man takes them out or was pleasant to them, that they are obliged to express yes to sex a while later. Ladies with this condition may turn into an obvious objective, and th ey may even submit to an

Should Addiction Be Considered a Disease - 1976 Words

Should Addiction Be Considered A Disease? XBCOM275 March 31, 2013 Should Addiction Be Considered A Disease? In society, drugs have been the downfall for many people. There are many reasons that a person may use drugs such as: peer pressure, relief of stress, increased energy, to relax, to relieve pain, to escape reality, to feel more self esteem, and for recreation (Drug addiction and drug abuse, 2011). What is it that causes the obsession and compulsion to use drugs? Why can some people stop and others go on to become addicts? Women who become addicted will abandon their children, continue to use while pregnant, sell themselves, and often put themselves in danger in order to get their drug of choice. Children of addicted parent(s) often can have behavioral problems or trouble with school and friends. Many children are forced to grow up and have to take care of themselves, siblings, and the addict because the addict is more worried about using drugs than taking care of their family. This often leads to family or social service agencies intervening on behalf of the children. The getting and abusing of drugs becomes part of their daily life which leads to financial problems, social and medical problems. Many times friends and families have to sit by and watch as the person they love chooses to use drugs over them, no matter how much they try to help them stop the addict continues to use knowing what the possible consequences may be or they stop for a period of time only to go back to using again. Language and Composition Song Of Solomon Free Essays

Song Of Solomon two significant minor characters BY Glossary In Toni Morrison book Song of Solomon, she Introduces characters that are significant in every situation then finds a way for them to help further develop the plot. The two characters that are the most interesting in the smallest way are First Corinthians and Empire State. These two are involved in very little dialogue and don’t appear often in the first three chapters. We will write a custom essay sample on Language and Composition Song Of Solomon or any similar topic only for you Order Now They aren’t faced with difficult challenges or help the main characters, which only questions of their existence. This not only sakes them Important but Interesting while their characteristics are hard to read. First Corinthians, sister of Milkman and Magdalene Dead and daughter of Ruth and Macon Dead is kind of first introduced to us in the first chapter when the author says â€Å"The others, who knew that the house was more prison than palace, and that the Dodge Sedan was for Sunday drives only, felt sorry for Ruth Foster and her dry Daughters and called her son â€Å"deep. † Reading this makes the author think – what Is wrong with the daughters? Is there something wrong with them or are they Just very observant and say very little? Corinthians isn’t really mentioned again until chapter 2 where we get to see her interact with her family. During the car ride the author shows us through dialogue and other suggestive actions that Corinthians might not really like her family. â€Å"And that lawyer- what’s his name? † Ruth looked around at Corinthians, who Ignored her. Why would Corinthians Ignore her mother? Did her mother do something wrong to her? In this chapter I think the author is trying to tell us that Corinthians does not really like her mother but likes her father or maybe she does not really like her father Just fears him enough to respect him. This is shown when Toni Morrison writes † She owns that place, Corinthians,† Ruth said. † I don’t care what she owns. I care about what she is. Daddy? † Corinthians leaned toward her father for confirmation. In that little scene one might say Corinthians Is halting at something but what? During the rest of the car ride Corinthians only tries to make conversation with her father. Empire State Is a very minute character in the first three chapters of the book. Even though he says nothing he comes as one who keeps to himself and could be hiding something. He’s presented somewhat like a criminal. He is first introduced to us when Milkman goes looking for Guitar. Toni Morrison says â€Å"All but Empire State, who stood, broom In hand and drop-lipped, with the expression of a very Intelligent ten- year-old. † Why does he not argue about the topic with the others? Is it that he does not care? Maybe it’s the fact that he is taking in everything that everyone is saying and using to decide what his next move is. He might be a criminal but nobody would ever guess that because he keeps to himself and acts like he’s mute. Way that would makes them seem quite influential. We can use the dialogue and behavior of the characters to infer that they play a big role in the plot and might actually help the main character out in the end. Corinthians seems like she knows something nobody else knows, her tone is as if she is trying to tell us something. The way Toni Morrison presents her tells us that Milkman is going to need to find out something, something that could help him move on in the story. Empire State is someone that might be hiding who he really is or hiding something very important that could help Milkman sort out his thoughts about his family and the town in general. Your Land & My Land Essays - Wildlife, Zoo, Tranquillity, Nature

Your Land & My Land Your Land and My Land There are many differences in a city when compared to a rural setting. One of the largest differences deals with that of the visual surroundings. Cities are filled with buildings, streets traffic and people, while the country is filled with trees, mountains, streams and animals. With such commotion in this city-type setting, the natural environment is altered a great deal. Natural wildlife, which runs rampant in the spacious great outdoors, is seemingly non-existent in urban areas. This, however, is not the case by any means. It is necessary to look a little closer to find wildlife on the land of a city. The wildlife that still exists inside the city has learned to adapt to their environment as means of survival. Pigeons can be found eating breadcrumbs from an old man's hands in the park. Rats scour the sewers and alleys for scraps. Squirrels relax in the trees and make their moves for food accordingly, while avoiding some hazards such as cars and people that surround them. These are all examples of how animals can adapt to the setting and survive. In the country or any rural area, nature functions in a different manner. People must learn to adapt to their surroundings, while animals and nature continue to live on peacefully. While driving down a country highway at night, one must watch carefully for deer, moose or any other type of animal that could have wandered into the middle of the road. Roads themselves leave people in the country dealing more with nature's wrath. Snow on a windy dirt road up a mountain becomes much more of a hindrance as Page 1 compared to snow that would be plowed away and kept melted with salt on a flat city street. A large tree that could have fallen in the road out in the country could take days to be cleared; yet in the city such a tree would be removed in an immediate fashion. Visiting nature or animals while in the city, can be accomplished by a trip to the park or zoo. Both parks and zoos inside the city are very high maintenance, at the same time costly. In rural area, parks have existed forever and upkeep is not the hardest of tasks to accomplish. In the country, even if a park is unavailable, one is still surrounded by a sense of calm while animals co-exist with humans. When visiting a zoo in the city, it is obvious to see that animals are not around by their own free will. Being held captive and surrounded by bars limits the ability for animals to roam freely ad live their life the way it was meant to be. Psychologically, this may have something to do with the stereotype of city people not being as hospitable as country dwellers, in general. In the hustle and bustle of the city, many people have a tendency to get so wrapped up and trapped in their typically fast-paced life, leaving little opportunity to unwind, relax and basically rest the brain. Appreciation of nature would also have to be one of the biggest differences. One who lives in the country or rural area that is surrounded by nature day in and day out, might not appreciate what they have around them. Yet one who lives in the city and escapes to a park, zoo, or even vacations to a secluded area; enjoys every minute of the peace and tranquility. Respect is kept by a city-dweller for the land that remains unscathed by mankind and its every growing population and industrialization. For without such rural areas, one wouldn't have a place to go ease the mind. This goes to Page 2 show how people can so easily take things for granted. Another major difference that is easily noticed is the many sounds heard. In a country field one can put his or her ear to the wind and listen to grass blowing, birds chirping, water flowing in a nearby stream and maybe the faint rumble of your neighbor's tractor. Those little vibrations from that tractor are a fraction of the noise people are subject to everyday in every city. Motors running, horns honking, hundreds upon

What to Do When Words Appear Twice in a Row

What to Do When Words Appear Twice in a Row What to Do When Words Appear Twice in a Row What to Do When Words Appear Twice in a Row By Mark Nichol Using a word twice in a row isn’t always a no-no, but there’s always a more elegant way to revise a sentence in which you might initially be inclined to repeat a word immediately. When words collide, try these approaches: 1. â€Å"What you do do is your own business.† Even if this sentence is intended as a counterpoint to a â€Å"what you don’t do† proposition, the emphatic first do is superfluous (â€Å"What you do is your own business†). If you must retain the repetition, introduce a separating phrase: â€Å"What you do decide to do is your own business.† 2. â€Å"They had had many arguments.† Replace the second had with a prepositional phrase (â€Å"They had gotten into many arguments†) or a more specific verb (â€Å"They had endured many arguments†), or introduce more vivid imagery into a revision (â€Å"They had verbally sparred many times†). 3. â€Å"I showed her her message.† Replace one pronoun preferably, both of the pronouns with a noun (â€Å"I showed my sister the woman’s message†). This isn’t a problem with him, because two forms of the pronoun would appear (â€Å"I showed him his message†), though, again, if him and his refer to different men, it might be better to specify, in place of one pronoun or the other, one of the men in question. 4. â€Å"He came in in disarray.† Replace the prepositional phrase with a simple verb (â€Å"She entered in disarray†). 5. â€Å"She gives in in every case.† Simply recast the final phrase (â€Å"She gives in every time†) or flip the phrase to the front (â€Å"In every case, she gives in†). 6. â€Å"What it is is a travesty.† â€Å"What it is† is always an unnecessarily verbose way to start a sentence. Start with the subject (â€Å"It’s a travesty†). 7. â€Å"I placed the card I had written on on the desk.† Recast the prepositional phrase â€Å"written on† with on at its head (â€Å"I placed the card on which I had written the note on the desk†). But first confirm that the modifying phrase involving written is necessary at all. 8. â€Å"We realize that that will not be satisfactory.† Replace the second that with a noun (â€Å"We realize that the proposal will not be satisfactory†). 9. â€Å"We will discuss this this evening.† Replace the first this with a pronoun (â€Å"We will discuss it this evening†) or a noun (â€Å"We will discuss the matter this evening†). 10. â€Å"Is there someone I can talk to to resolve the issue?† Employ a participial phrase in place in the infinitive phrase â€Å"to resolve† (â€Å"Is there someone I can talk to about resolving the issue?†) or amplify the second to by replacing it with the phrase â€Å"in order to† (â€Å"Is there someone I can talk to in order to resolve the issue?†). Occasionally, an immediate repetition of a word, separated from the first instance by punctuation, is appropriate for emphatic effect (â€Å"I have come here from far, far away†). At other times, even though punctuation separates the repetition, a recast would improve the sentence. For example, â€Å"Even though I was there, there didn’t seem to be anything for me to do† might be revised to â€Å"Even though I was there, I didn’t seem to be of any use† or â€Å"Despite my presence, there didn’t seem to be anything for me to do.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Useful Hacks for Improving Your Life

Useful Hacks for Improving Your Life How to Stay Alert and Energetic for The Rest of Your Life? To have a constant supply of energy and feel a rush of power is not nonsense, and not a miracle, but a real or even normal state for a person. Anyone can achieve anything if they manage to overcome laziness and push away the potential obstacles to its productivity. By the way, productivity directly depends on the energy reserve of a person. And productivity, as we know, is almost the most important for each of us, and thanks to it we learn, work, achieve goals and conquer peaks. The problem is that each new day we notice is an increase in inactivity and indifference among people. Well, if the growing egoism in people because of the development of technology can still be forgiven, then indifference to one's own health is already frightening and even pissing. People are stuck in the comfort zone and are ready to sit in one position for the rest of their days. And how can those people believe that a constant surge of wakefulness exists? In this article, we try to inform that you constantly saving and accumulating energy is possible when following several simple rules. If you want to boost your energy level, then the provided information is for you. I Want to Become More Energetic: What Have I Do? The first and most important question that you must ask yourself: what am I doing all day? Perhaps, at first it will be difficult for you to get an answer, but in the course of self-examination you will understand that very often your time is simply wasted on unnecessary things, and by itself, the energy is also exhausted. So, you can determine what kind of person you are. There is one very interesting typology, according to which there are a jelly-filled human and a human hacker. Let’s review them both and maybe you'll learn if you belong to any of these categories. 1. A jelly-fish human is someone who usually refuses any physical activity, though understands its value and benefit. Jelly-fish humans have little energy, are afraid of changes, unpredictable situations, and risks. This results in disorders, illnesses such as a heart disease, obesity, dementia, or depression. 2. A hacker is a person who is constantly improving his or her life by taking challenges, searching adventures and gaining vital experience. Hackers have a sufficient amount of energy and generally a better health condition. Analyze your lifestyle, the level of physical and mental activity, potential sources of stress, and determine which category you belong to. Be honest with yourself, because your health and life depend on it. Valuable Tips for Boosting Energy 1. Exercise. The most helpful tip here is to exercise every day. Despite boosting energy and improving metabolism, this will help raise your mood and increase productivity for the whole day ahead. If you practice exercising at least 30 minutes a day, you will soon become a healthier person. 2. Run. Running is one of the most beneficial physical activities. It helps with blood circulating, losing weight, and recovery of nerve cells. 3. Sleep a lot. Sleep is a condition in which the brain actively works, helping the body to restore strength and energy spent for the day. So, in order to be active and stay awake for long - sleep at least 7-8 hours a day. 4. Improve your posture. Watch your posture and constantly improve it to avoid problems with the spine and nervous system. Believe me, good posture is the way to perfect health. 5. Drink more water. Water is necessary for every living organism to support its vital functions. Drinking enough water means giving your body a clear energy to perform any tasks. 6. Stand while working. A sedentary lifestyle, as well as a sedentary posture at work, negatively affects your physical and mental health. Therefore, try to stand while you work or so some exercises. 7. Stop worrying. Each of us has lots of problems that make us worry or panic. If you continue worrying about anything, you will lose energy faster and want to sleep. Practice meditation and a positive thinking. 8. Use smart drugs and vitamins. The last ways to boost energy are the so-called â€Å"smart drugs† and vitamins. Such supplements like Aniracetam and Piracetam help enhance memory, working performance and activity, and vitamin B-12 are great for getting an immediate energy boost and improve cognitive functions.

Pollution Of New Energy Resource Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Pollution Of New Energy Resource - Essay Example With the current issue of global warming, generation of energy from solar power is one of the best options for managing the problem. Use of solar power has a high likelihood of reducing the challenges of global warming affecting the world today. There are different ways in which solar energy can be used. It is as a result of this that there exist different forms of solar energy. For example, passive solar systems use absorptive structures of houses in heating water beside homes. Active solar energy systems are other types of solar systems that depend on solar collectors to harness solar energy. This type of solar can be used in the generation of electricity. The electricity generated by this solar is channeled to an electrical grid. It is as a result of this that I considered generating energy from a solar bag. Solar bags use the same principle of energy generation from the sun like other solar systems. The solar bag constitutes small, thin as well as durable solar panels. The solar panels in the solar bags are made up of photovoltaic cells which have the ability to generate electricity from the direct sunlight. As the light and energy from the sun hit the solar panel, the cells absorb the energy as well as the daylight making the flow freely since they become loose. The electric field created in the photovoltaic cells ensures the electrons have flown in one direction creating an electric current that is harnessed by metal contact cells that are attached to the top and bottom of the cells.

American Civil War Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

American Civil War - Essay Example His ultimate goal in the campaign of 1864 was ostensibly the capture of the Confederate capital, Richmond. Every movement, position and counter attack was intended to push through the Confederate forces. Smaller Union forces under the command of Franz Siegel and Benjamin Butler attempted to carry out missions that were to cut off supplies and reinforcements from General Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. While capturing Richmond would have been a great leap towards ending the war, Grant admitted in his writings that this was actually a secondary goal. The primary objective of his campaign in the spring and summer of 1864 was to wage a war of attrition against the rebel troops. He wanted to wear them down, deplete their morale and break what remained of their allegiance to the cause of the Confederacy. While Grant ultimately failed in taking Richmond during the campaign, it could be argued that he did indeed cause a serious drop in morale among Confederate soldiers by causing high rates of attrition and displaying more tenacity to win battles than any Union commander had before him (Rickard 2006). The start of the campaign began with Grant traveling with Meade and the Army of the Potomac south, in an attempt to cross the Rapidan River and travel through the Wilderness. This Wilderness had been the scene of fierce fighting one year earlier that resulted in the retreat of the Union forces back across the river. Grant was hoping that he could push through the Wilderness before Lee was able to position his troops. Lee beat Grant to the Wilderness and the forces met amid the thick brush and tangles of the forest. Lee was successful in halting the Union advance, but Grant showed considerable determination by refusing to retreat back across the river. Instead, he withdrew from the Wilderness and tried to march around Lee’s army. Grant set his sights on obtaining control of a railroad junction near a village known as

Westward Expansion in the U.S. 1860-1890

Westward Expansion in the U.S. 1860-1890 Charles J. Averitt Take a map of the westward expansion of the United States and what do you see? Some would say that expansion was a necessity toward Manifest Destiny. Others would say that the ambition to be prosperous and wealthy played a huge role in how the map slowly begins to stretch westward. The truth is both are part of a much larger picture in how the U.S. expanded in the post-Civil War era. We can sit here and go on and on about why, but there are reasons based on facts, events, and uncontrollable circumstances. Expansion happened the way it did for a number of reasons. We start with geographical factors that include the availability of water, fertile land, and population disbursement. Another reason is the expansion of those transportation systems and terrain features that limit transportation of vital and valuable resources. Finally we come to personal motives that sparked national interests in expansion toward the Pacific Ocean. So we can now concur that westward expansion was necessary as the population increased in the east and ambition created the drive toward the west. Geography has always played a critical role in the disbursement and expansion of people. Usually for the same reasons all over the world throughout history. Water is a necessary resource that we as humans need to survive. This explains the paths and clusters of U.S. citizens on the map. You can see from any map that displays this data that the majority of Americans live near water sources. Expanding to the West you can still see that same pattern. Water also holds the key to plant life and fertile land. As the population increases in a specific area, the resources in that area become tied up. The populous then proceeds to venture out in search of new vital resources. In the United States case the only unexplored area at the time was westward. West of the Mississippi River water sources become scarce in a more arid environment. The further west you get the less vital recourses you can find. Land improvements do not change that much as pioneers head west because of this factor. Populated areas spread out from all of these water sources. Once you pass the Rocky Mountains we see the land improvements pick up again. Rivers are introduced into the continent from the Pacific Ocean on the western front. Once again water being the prevalent factor. Next we have the transportation aspect of the expansion. In the 1860s the country is pretty well established and the rivers and constructed rail systems make moving resources a bit easier. (Dobson) Once again the population disbursement keeps the majority of our transportation systems more available in the most populated regions. As we begin expansion slowly in the second half of the 19th Century the rail systems do not change much until the last decade of the century. There are a couple of reasons for this. Industry was positioned in the north, and in order to maintain an industry you need an abundant and constant supply of resources. Railroads were abundant in this area because of this. We also have the issue of terrain restrictions. Engineering was not at the level that exists today so only certain areas were passable, especially in the Rocky Mountains. Earlier in the 19th century was the migration of many citizens to the west because of the rumored Gold Rush. (Henkin) Once the ru mors were found to be true after a large migration of citizens the nation took interest in the prospect of gaining much needed wealth. This introduced the concept of a rail road that stretched from Missouri all the way to the western coast in Sacramento, California. (Haycox) It would be known as the Transcontinental Rail Road. This opened the avenue to the west. Migrants have an easily accessible way to reach the west and claim their wealth. With this migration we begin to see the rail systems expand through the west but not much due to the Rocky Mountains and lack of natural resources, or undiscovered resources for that matter. With the Transcontinental Railroad in place we move into the Gold Rush. This is what truly brought U.S. citizens to the west in great numbers. After the days of the Oregon Trail and the notion of abundant gold was passed back to the east the railroad was built. (Haycox) Not only were they traveling by foot and wagons; they had trains. (Henkin) This led to the mass migration to the west in search of personal gain. The reaction was more rail systems put in place and land improvements to keep up with the growing populations needs. The western frontier was slowly being explored for both habitable areas and more gold and silver. Government interest was sparked by these events and quickly began annexing these territories into the Union. The 1890s saw the largest expansion of rail system in the entire 19th century. In summary expansion to the west in the United States had many variable and initiating circumstances. It can also be concluded that the expansion was necessary for the U.S. to progress into the modern era. Geography played a large role in the expansion with the dependency on water, fertile land, and the overall location of the majority of U.S. citizens. Transportation and industry pushed the drive toward the discovery of more resources which created the vast expanse of transportation systems on both land and rivers. Most notably the Transcontinental Railroad. Finally valuables such as gold and silver triggered the migration of hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens to strike wealth and claim fertile land in the further stretches of the west coast. This allowed the west to progress and become more habitable to sustain the ever growing population in the east. Thus the great Western Expansion becomes a fight for personal gain and wealth for both settlers and the country itself. References Dobson, D. (2013). The Golden Era of East Coast Hip-Hop

The Golden era of east coast hip-hop This piece will demonstrate an understanding of the golden era of East coast hip-hop, from 1986 to 1993, focusing and analysing the historical roots, influences and inspirational individuals, giving reference to musical examples that shaped East coast hip-hop. Attention will also be centred on the legacy left, concentrating on the music that was influenced as well as the resulting change in fashion and political views. Historical roots & influenceThe East coast was influenced somewhat by the traditions of West African culture, the Griots dating back hundreds of years who travelled as poets and lyricists, contributed greatly to the lyricism of East coast hip-hop; the music of the Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron and Jalal Mansur Nurriddin, had great importance to the development of east coast hip hop with their early raps and rhythm. The furthermost direct influence on East coast hip-hop was the Jamaican style of ‘Toasting’, which consisted of chanting over African American R&B records.African American sailors  introduced  Toasting’  in the 1960s at dances termed  Ã¢â‚¬ËœBlues dances’,  whilst in port. The advent of Hip-hop culture can be traced back to the ever more widespread block parties of New York City (1973), where a cross cultralization of African Americans and Puerto Ricans began in the South Bronx. These block parties mostly comprised of DJs playing vernacular genres such as soul, funk and disco, DJ Kool Herc amongst them, was credited with the development of East coast hip-hop, his technique of isolating the ‘break’ from a hard hitting funk track and extending it by using two copies of the same record became very popular. He emigrated to America (1967) from Jamaica bringing with him the already popular DJ style of break-beat mixing used in Jamaican Dub music. He encouraged B-boying or break-dancing, which became part of the four elements of hip-hop culture (B-boying, rap, graffiti and Djing), he  introduced a generation of sampling, which was extensively used in 80s hip-hop whilst creating a generation of  Djs  and influencing artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaatta and DJ Premier. Gangs had great influence on the evolution of East coast hip-hop culture, from guarding equipment, security for Djs, to collecting money off the doors of parties.Afrika Bambaatta once head of the largest gang in New York, the Black Spades, managed to create one the largest movements in hip-hop culture, the Zulu Nation. This hip-hop awareness group began organizing social events for the youths of New York, merging the main the four elements of hip-hop, B-boying, graffiti, rapping and Dj mixing to create a place of unity and peace, where issues could be settled without violence and where the youth could socialize, as well as promoting black power.Bambaatta had great effect on the growth of hip-hop culture; one very influential piece he produced was Planet rock (1982), which became one of the most ever sampled and remixed tracks in hip-hop. The influence from Kraftwerk is apparent throughout; the melody from the Trans-Europe express (1977) is used as well as their style of synthetic drums and rhythms. Arthur Baker, the producer, set a blueprint for future producers by the use of the Roland TR-808. Distinctive elements & individualsIn divergence to many early raps, which utilized basic rhyme patterns, East coast can be defined by its emphasis on poetic skill; it may also be characterized by its intricate wordplay, metaphors, polysyllable rhymes and smooth conveyance, production may be perceived as ‘hard hitting’, aggressive and mainly sample driven, as seen in Dj Premier’s iconic production. A major influential duo in East coast rap was Eric B & Rakim, who made sampling James Brown the main basis of hip-hop in the late 80s and early 90s.The duo saw their debut with the single Eric B is president (1986), which consis ted of Rakim’s notable laidback vocal style and Eric B’s distinguished scratching. The original record recognized Eric B as the producer and Marley Marle as the mixer, but the fact was, Marley Marle arranged the parts together; the duo just simply paid him, due to their lack of knowledge with studio equipment. The track contained the famous baseline from Fonda Rae’s over like a rat (1982) above drums from the Honey Dipper’s Impeach the president (1972) and the vocal sample of James Brown’s funky president (1974), which was the scratched by Eric B; a subtle 808 kick was also layered underneath. Marley Marle produced the entire track using a four track recorder and an Akai Mpc Renaissance, he described these confines as, â€Å"Limitations made us what we were,† he said. â€Å"We were making classic hip hop in the projects in the living room, no studio and a four track. So it’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at. Sometimes limitations are good†[1]. The duo had their album debut with Paid in full (1987) which soon became East coast hip-hop’s most influential album of the golden era, with Rakim’s style setting a blueprint for future East coast rappers, it was taken from the old-school era to the lyrical dexterity known to define East coast hip-hop of the 90s. Rakim’s jazz influences were portrayed throughout the album with his tranquil implementation.Yvonne Bynoe describes this era as â€Å"During this period, it was rap artists, rather than Black churches or traditional civil rights organizations, who through their music and personas connected with disenfranchised urban youth†[2]. James Brown had a very similar influence, â€Å"His music not only reflected the stride of and the diligence and militancy of the Black liberation struggle, but some of his songs became anthems of Black Pride in the face of racism and state repression, such as, â€Å"Say it L oud, I’m Black and I’m Proud,† which echoed a mantra of Emiliano Zapata, â€Å"We’d rather die on our feet / Than be livin’ on our knees†[3].These views on Black Nationalism, social states and Afrocentrism became the main reasons for the extensive sampling of James Brown in this era, many would agree that without James Brown hip-hop would not be where it is today. K. R. S One became a foremost influence to the East coast hip-hop movement, eager to express his West Indian heritage he began creating a new hip-hop reggae style, deeply motivated by reggae legend Shinehead he started to incorporate and promote Jamaican dance hall expressions into hip-hop music. He had his debut after founding BDP (Boogie Down Productions), combined with D-Nice and DJ Scot La Rock with the influential album Criminal Minded (1987), which soon gained credit for the establishment of gangsta rap. The album’s production followed the path of Eric B and Rakim by the wide acceptance of sampling James Brown. Poetry (1987) contained samples from James Brown’s Don’t tell it (1976), Dope beat (1987) enclosed samples from ACDC Back in Black (1981) and Criminal minded incorporated the vocal melody from the Beatles Hey, Jude (1968).The Jamaican inspiration is present throughout the album, utilizing the ‘Diseases’ riddim which began with Yelowman’s reggae song Zunguzung (1982), the groove can strongly be heard in Remix for p & 9mm but was more hostile and provocative. Criminal minded was the first album to contain a vivid portrayal of real life in the south Bronx streets; it paved the way for the next decade of gangsta rap. The albums was the first of their kind to promote gun violence as can be heard in 9mm and the brandishing of firearms on the front cover, which soon became widely accepted in the 90s era.The album was mainly produced by K. R. S; it is sampled based production, a very aggressive style and utilizing t he sampling of funk ‘breaks’. The legacy The legacy East coast hip-hop left was vast, greatly expanding to a more commercially viable demographic, with the help of Bambaatta, it was spread worldwide. Dr. Joycelyn Wilson describes the legacy left, â€Å"Surely the cultural expressions in a hip-hop lifestyle created a way for many people across a variety of backgrounds to grow wealth, extend the boundaries of their artistic talents and establish a foothold in areas of political and civic engagement†[4].Political and social views expressed through music had been preserved in many other styles of music, gangsta rap was soon to follow the golden era, heavily influenced by Eric B & Rakim and K. R. S, it became a dominant force in hip hop culture up until its collapse in the late 1990s. The majority of early rap was accredited for decreasing gang violence but the emergence of gangsta rap did completely the opposite, many youths of society would come to express the quarr els of individuals into a nationwide dispute, this can be seen in the feud between the Blood and the Crips gangs. The golden era was the most innovative, diverse and creative period in hip-hop; it developed many new styles of popular music, formed new words, which have currently entered our daily vernacular and penetrated conventional culture. The early fashion style of the B-boys (baggy jeans, trainers, jewellery and tracksuits etc. ) has been echoed throughout mainstream society, with the majority of popular fashion companies following. Businesses such as Adidas, Nike, Fred Perry, and so forth have all played part in spreading hip-hop fashion to the masses. Many genres have been influenced since this era from the direct sampling of raps as seen in early jungle, (Dj Hype’s early production is a good example), to mainstream pop culture taking direct influence, having such artist as N. E. R. D, Nelly and Mary J Blige having number ones during the 2000s. Graffiti has since become a worldwide, recognised art form, from being regarded simply as vandalism, to now having designated art galleries for street art, artists such as Banksy have taken direct influence from hip-hop culture to develop their own skills. CS Lewiss Moral Argument and the Existence of a God Essay

CS Lewis’s Moral Argument and the Existence of a God The question of whether or not God exists has been asked by billions of people since the concept of religion emerged. Many people try to explain things such as hurricanes and tornadoes as â€Å"Acts of God† or even the existence of human beings and the world itself to be â€Å"created† by an almighty power. Others claim that the harm they inflict was demanded of them by their God. CS Lewis argues that through the comprehension of standards of good and bad, God’s existence is proven. However, Lewis’s defense for the existence of God is adequate because it fails to acknowledge the possibility for people to be good on their own, without the instruction of a supernatural entity. Clive Staples Lewis†¦show more content†¦The man or woman whose seat was taken tries to make excuses to make it seem as if they were not doing anything that contradicts this unspoken moral standard. Both of the people in this situation seem to have their own moral standards that conflict so they must have this idea in their head of an expectation of morality. They know that morals exist, but we do not know how or where they came from. How does all of this fit into Lewis’s argument for the existence of God? Lewis breaks it down into a three-statement syllogism, which is a method of logical reasoning utilizing deductive reasoning based on two or more statements that are assumed true in order to reach a conclusion in an argument. The first premise states that if God does not exist, then moral values do not exist. Secondly, objective moral values and duties do exist, so therefore, God exists. Objective moralities are those which disagree with universally accepted human pr eferences. If a person agrees with both of the premises, then they reach the given conclusion. But, for a person who is not a theist, they can maintain their nonbelief through
