In â€Å"The 9/11 â€Å"Overreaction†? Nonsense.†, Charles Krauthammer selects the supporting side of The United States of America’s reaction to the terrorist attack of September 11th, 2001. Throughout the essay, Krauthammer succeeds in persuading his target audience of conservatives and general Americans that not only was Americas reaction to the 9/11 terrorist attack justified, but it also brought adequate results. Krauthammer utilizes various strategies such as the rhetorical triangle, stylistic techniques, and establishment of credibility to convey his argument. Krauthammer builds support on his argument through statistics such as â€Å" the total cost of ‘the two wars’ is $1.3 trillion. That’s less than 1/11th of the national debt, less than one year of Obama deficit spending.† This statistic is informing the opposers of America’s reaction to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 that financially, the country’s reaction is not hindering the lives of the American citizens and those who live in the United States of America. For the most part, Krauthammer utilizes logos efficiently, but there are times where he states without further elaboration. Charles Krauthammer has a decent appeal to ethos because of his credentials. Krauthammer received a formal education at Mcgill University, majored in political science and economics, Harvard Medical School and Oxford University (Washington Post). Krauthammer’s educational background makes him a very credible source. However, throughout the essay he does not use any other credible source and expert opinion to further support and validate many of his claims.
